Violet Eden is Grigori ? part angel, part human. Her destiny is to protect humans from the vengence of exiled angels.
Knowing who to trust is key but, when Grigori reinforcements arrive, it becomes clear everyone is hiding something. Even Lincoln. The only thing Violet does know: Phoenix?s hold over her is more dangerous than ever.
The race to find the one thing that could tilt the balance of power brings them all to the sacred mountains of Jordan, where Violet?s power will be pushed to the extreme. And the ultimate betrayal exposed.
Final Thoughts: Wow! What a great follow up to Embrace! Once again I was up into the early hours of the morning reading constantly. The relationships and characters that Jessica creates are just so rich ? I wish I could live in their world!
First of all I must say how utterly pleased I am that such a great work of YA fiction (supernatural to boot) has come out of my home country of Australia. A lot of the YA market here is based on contemporary novels so I?m always glad to see new themes and genres being explored by local writers. For those who have been following my reviews, you?ll know that the first installment in this series, Embrace, just totally blew me away. Enticed was no exception.
It?s been a few months since I read the first book ? so a few minor details were a little hazy and I found it difficult to get back ?into? since my memory was failing me, but people who read this one straight after the first will have absolutely no problems. But, in saying that, I had no trouble easily getting back into the pace of things. That?s one of the things I really love about this series ? and Jessica?s writing ? there?s no fuss and unecessary action. What you get is vital and it?s so refreshing to read!
The relationship between Violet and Lincoln really deepens in this story. While I myself was very much a Phoenix girl in book 1, I found myself drifting over more and more to good-guy Lincoln. I don?t want to give anything away for those who haven?t read the book yet, but I think you?ll know what I mean!
The introduction of the new Grigori members was great. It really gave the story a new volume and level of excitement. I?m particularly taken with Spence ? he?s a lot of fun! It?ll be interesting to see how their storylines develop as the series progresess. The aspect of traveling to Jordan and all the religious ?backstories? were also really, really interesting. I can?t pick out what was my favourite part of the novel so I?ll just have to say ? all of it!
There are so many layers to this story and the action and deceit has really stepped up from Embrace. Each time I went to put the book down (for necesseties, like eating!) I felt like I was sacrificing something. It was hard to do!
Anyway, if you haven?t read this series yet ? go out and do so now. I know the book isn?t readily available in other countries yet (I think some people from the US are having trouble if I recall?) but it?s really worth trying! I can?t wait for the next book, book 3 entitled Emblaze in October! The one page teaser was simply not enough!
Recommended to: Fans of the first book will be very pleased. If you?re looking to get into this series, please do. I would say it?s very similar in terms of enjoyability and themes to the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.
