Fortunately, employee engagement levels can be measured in dollars, and many organizations that focus on improving employee engagement are likely to see a significant savings. If you look at improvement in lost productivity alone, as mentioned earlier in the article, corporations will notice improved bottom line results, but it doesn?t stop here. Engaged employees are five times less likely to have a work-related injury, and seven times less likely to have a work-related injury that causes them to lose time in the workplace (Lockwood).
At the end of the day, the more engaged employees are the more passion they feel about what they do, and the more they feel connected to the organization they work for. On the other hand, employees who are disengaged are emotionally ?checked-out,? and depending on the severity of the disengagement, some even find ways to undermine what their engaged counterparts are accomplishing. As a result, you not only have decreased productivity, but you also have a formula for poor employee morale throughout the organization. (Gallup).
In order to improve the engagement levels of members of Generation X, specifically, it?s important to focus on finding ways to improve passion, purpose, and meaning in the workplace. Generation X?ers not only work to earn a living, but they desire work that provides a sense of purpose and meaning in their life. In other words, a role that gives them the opportunity to make their own unique contribution to the world. They want to make a difference. And this all starts by putting them through a process that is uniquely designed to help them accomplish that goal; a process that is specifically designed to help them identify their individual passions, their strengths, and their purpose, so they can better leverage those qualities and traits in the work they are already doing for the benefit of those they are responsible for leading. It?s really a servant-leadership approach to workplace fulfillment.
