New Portal Gives Investors Carbon Market Insights - Arts and ...

LONDON (August 9, 2011) ? Invezz, one of UK?s up-and-coming boutique digital media companies, introduced today their newly launched investments information portal, Carbon Markets (www.carbon-markets.co.uk). The website is designed to provide large corporations, small businesses and environmentally conscious individuals with valuable insights on the state, trends and forecasts of the dynamic carbon markets.

?Carbon investments have been slowly growing in popularity, as yet below the radar, as a quickly growing commodities market. In today?s unstable economic environment, global financial superpowers are faced with challenges that re-direct investors? attention to niche markets with relative detachment from the turmoil on Wall Street,? said John Adam of Invezz. ?The Carbon Markets portal is an informational starting point into the world of carbon investments, offering thorough and reliable data to potential investors.

?

The World Bank estimates the current overall value of the international carbon markets at $103 billion.?The global carbon markets are trading floors for carbon credits (a commodity unit equal to one ton of CO2 emissions), which was created during the 1997 Kyoto Protocol when the international community agreed that a drastic reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is not only mandatory, but also urgent in order to dodge a global environmental catastrophe. Carbon credits are a quantitative tool to keep track of GHG emission reductions and a flexible way for industries to offset their carbon footprint.

?

The two main fields for prospective carbon investors to explore are the compliance carbon market and the voluntary carbon market. The former holds the bulk of carbon transactions. It is highly structured and regulated, with the European Union emissions trading scheme (EU ETS) being the most mature compliance carbon market. Under the EU ETS, countries and their respective ?dirty? industries are allocated carbon caps, which determine the supply and demand of carbon credits. If an industry keeps its GHG emissions under quota, it may sell the surplus on the open carbon market. If, however, it surpasses its cap, then it must purchase carbon credits to the amount equivalent to its above-limit GHG emissions. The voluntary carbon market holds a considerably lesser share of credits transacted. Its major players are corporations and responsible individuals who voluntarily invest in carbon offsetting projects such as biofuels, forestry and alternative energy. ?Many of these carbon-offsetting initiatives can also be outstanding financial vehicles for balancing and diversifying any investment portfolio.?

?

The outlook is that the global carbon markets will continue to move up, even amid the current financial woes. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, currently traded volumes of carbon credits are showing a 15 percent improvement since 2010.

?

Invezz?s Carbon Markets portal is ready and able to address investors? key questions and arm them with quality knowledge so they can make a balanced business decision that is also safe for the environment. Uncertainties and investment fears over what the financial future holds, have already proven to be paralyzing for investors. More often than not, these feelings create a ripple effect that can bring the global economy to a screeching halt, as recent developments have shown. Both seasoned and novice carbon investors need to be fully aware of what to expect. Only then can their investment choices bring positive contributions for their own benefit and the benefit of the global economy as a whole.

?

There are immense business possibilities behind the carbon market?s door. The key to unlocking them is in the information that the Carbon Markets portal provides.
